Greetings! I'm a voice actor & new media hobbyist! I dabble in After Effects, Photoshop, and various things. I hope to share some of my thoughts and arts. Enjoy! :)
Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
I’ve been interested in Q ever since I tried 3rd Strike several years ago, but I, like many others, was curious about who or what Q is. Years ago I read TiamatRoar’s SF Plot guide and there was mention of a theory by Joe Grabko that suspects David, the black CIA agent, is actually Q due to the similar taste in clothing as well as the skin tones matching up, and what appears to be David dressing as Q once the two other agents leave.
On February 22, 2013, I posted my fanon theory of Q in the Capcom Unity forum, below is an excerpt:
I’m working on a series about Q and basically I’m running with a theory I saw ages ago and have come to accept.
Q, whatever he is, is David, the agent from the ending. My reasoning:
-“Were you going to say that some spooky guy appears in every scene?” His remarks catch Juliana by surprise, so much so that she jokingly says David may have “telepathic” talent. I read this as David trying too hard to avoid suspicion, but ironically causing a minor case of confusion. He doth protest too much.
-“Well, hey, at least they have similar taste in clothing”
Huge irony. David is featured with the most prominent colour contrast in the scene; everything has a dark and blue-gray tone to it, yet, he is in a white shirt catching the light, and has a RED tie while the others have clothing that match the scene’s darker muted scheme.
-David’s clothing part 2: he has the same look as Q, minus the trenchcoat. Though I noticed he wears his dress shirt rather baggy. Look at the sagging in the front, near his stomach. I have a theory that he wears his “work clothes” loose so as not to bring attention to his real physique.
-Speaking of his physique, I don’t think Q is mechanical. I think at the most he may be slightly cybernetically enhanced, but the infamous “no skeleton from electrocution” thing is related to his strength. I suspect he has incredibly DENSE muscle mass, thus showing that the electricity can’t “penetrate” the tissue. Also it adds on to the whole mystery front. Why do I say he has dense muscle mass? See below. Another thing is Capcom has had a wide variety of robotic and inhuman characters that have electrocuted sprites. All of them show off robotic bits, or bizarre body structures. Q-Bee shows that the body we see is clearly some sort of “woman suit” and the Tiny Bee from her Honey drinking intro is in the core of her, acting as a pilot of sorts.
-Street Fighter characters are all capable of amazing feats, but Q’s raw strength is shown in the reaction from his opponents. A shoryuken is strong enough to stun Hugo, but, Q’s attacks have people literally flying upwards in an exaggerated manner that is visually different and more intense than typical launching moves. The massive strength could be tied to dense muscle mass and increased weight (listen to the impact when he lands in his intro). With that being said, the increased mass may mean better defense. What happens when you taunt 3 times? Q’s defense becomes the highest in game.
-The biggest issue with my theory that David is Q is skin tone. At first I thought he may not be as dark skinned as I thought, but then I took a look closely at his select screen portrait in the original 3S and the new art of 3S online. Shadows or not, in the new art of 3S, he appears to be rather dark- a lot darker than say someone like Yun and Yang, but a bit lighter than Urien’s armoured skin palette or Dudley.
Also, if you look at the sprites closely, there is something yellow on the back of Q’s head. I thought these may be wires or a component of his wrap around mask. There is art out there of Q where it appears blond hair (straightened/Caucasian) is poking out from underneath.
Also I have a theory that David may be the Q we play as and his surprise at Juliana’s presentation is genuine; he may be seeing pretenders and suits up to investigate at the end of the scene. Something with Q’s silhouette is in that office, and it’s in a different pose than we’ve seen Q in, it’s a lot more natural. Notice how he has his arms up adjusting his hat? It almost feels to me as he has just gotten dressed.
I may be reading too much into things, but I think that I have an interesting take on all this. Hah.
Today, I was thinking about Q again and decided to look at his sprites. I made a collage of my findings:

There’s the previously noted dark skin that matches David, and the wires, but I noticed something about one version of his move Total Destruction. He appears to be adjusting or bracing for the move - at first I thought he was reaching inside his coat and maybe pressing something on his mask, but during his eye glint, you can see that he actually is gripping his chest so hard that he TEARS into his coat….I wonder what that’s about? Does the female robotic voice belong to some sort of onboard health system he’s got? Is he overloading some harnessed power of sorts? I don’t know…
Well, this has just been some pondering on my end. What do you guys think?
Reblogging again due to Street Fighter 5 hype. Pleasepleaseplease let Q return. I miss going “hmmf” when dash-punching...
